District Dedicates New "John Abraham Track & Field Complex" in Lamar
(July 24, 2010) -- At a long-awaited ceremony on Saturday, July 24, the Darlington County School District officially dedicated the new “John Abraham Track and Field Complex” at Lamar High School. The track and field complex is named for Lamar High School alumnus and Atlanta Falcons Defensive End, John Abraham, who donated $100,000 to the construction of the new complex.
The new track and field complex includes an asphalt rubberized track, fencing, shot put and discus pads, pole vault pad, lighting, an irrigation system, and sodding of the interior track area.
The complex will be a welcome addition to a school with a rich history of track and field championships. From 1999-2006, the Lamar High School Boys’ Track Team won eight consecutive state championships, the most consecutive state championships on record. According to the SC High School League, the Lamar High School Girls’ Track Team has won two state championships in the past ten years: 2004 and 2007. The team was also runner-up in 2001, 2003, and 2008.
